What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

Unburying sets a rising-and-payback program in you: you were buried, ignored, and held down, and now you claw up out of the dirt, hardened, to face the ones who kept you under and make them watch. It frames your comeback as half survival and half score-settling, the toughness earned in the dark turned outward at them.

The longer you run it, the more the rising curdles into grudge. You start sorting the world into the buried you and the ones who buried you, measuring strength by who you can make answer for it. The survival that could have freed you keeps tilting back toward getting even. The charge sits in the payback and circles there, and you are left braced against them rather than out of the ground.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

At scale, Unburying hands a population a story of suppression repaid: we were buried and ignored, we toughened underground, and now we rise to confront the ones who held us down. A culture absorbs comeback as vindication, strength proven by who can be made to watch and answer.

The symptoms show as a hardening into us-against-them. A population learns to read its own survival mainly as grounds for payback, sorting people into the buried and the burying and keeping score. The resilience that might have freed them keeps bending toward getting even. The grudge recirculates, never resolving into release, and people stay braced against an enemy rather than risen past one.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
