What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

Take My Soul installs a loop of dread without an exit. It places you inside a moment where hope has drained out, the weight feels crushing, and the only question left is whether this is the end, with the same plea circling back instead of opening onto any next step.

You sit in the fear and the fear sits in you, neither building toward release nor sharpening into resolve. The crisis is named and named again, so the feeling holds steady at the same pitch, suspended, going nowhere in particular and leaving you exactly where you started.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

Across a population, Take My Soul installs a way of holding crisis as something to dwell inside rather than pass through. A culture absorbs the posture of naming dread, picturing the worst, and circling the same fear without any motion toward release or repair.

The symptoms read as a low, steady hum of anticipated catastrophe with no accompanying step forward. People rehearse the feeling of being overwhelmed and leave it there, so the mood neither resolves into action nor deepens into despair. It simply holds, level and unmoving, exactly where it began.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
