What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

An individual who plays Sunshine on repeat grows more willing to keep loving someone the relationship has already let down. The material states an expectation and its shortfall in the same breath, then answers with persistence, and the listener stops requiring a partnership to deliver what it promised. Attachment survives its own evidence.

Tolerance for a partial return increases with repetition. The individual grows slower to withdraw affection when it goes unmatched, and steadiness stands in for satisfaction. Loving becomes its own justification.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

A society that takes Sunshine into its common repertoire makes persistence the measure of love. Communal singing of an expectation named alongside its shortfall establishes continued devotion as the correct response to a partnership that fell short, and the threshold for leaving rises. Steadfastness becomes the admired trait.

Populations that absorb the pattern show longer tenure inside unsatisfying relationships, and whether affection is returned loses standing as a reason to go. Endurance acquires the standing of virtue. Communities grow patient with arrangements nobody inside them is happy with.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
