What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

See Through Me installs the ache of a gap between how you look and how you are. The program says: hold the put-together face, carry the hunger and the loneliness underneath, wait on relief that keeps not arriving, and reach for smoke to soften the waiting. It names the want to be truly known without ever getting there.

You sit in the ache and the song leaves you sitting in it. The longing to be seen is real, the coping is real, and neither one moves. Nothing resolves, nothing lifts, the waiting just repeats. You finish about where you began, a little heavier and no closer to relief.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

See Through Me hands a population the experience of hidden hardship: a presentable surface stretched over hunger, isolation, and money that never comes, with smoke as the way to soften the wait. The shared program is the longing to be truly seen paired with a reach for numbing, and it stays in that holding pattern without moving anyone through it.

The symptoms are quiet and stagnant. People recognize the gap between appearance and circumstance, lean on small escapes to manage it, and wait. Nothing in the program builds a way out or processes the pain; the coping recurs and the relief stays deferred. A culture living here grows familiar with quiet desperation and learns to wait.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
