What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

Protector sets a program in you that says safety comes from another person, that the right partner can stand between you and the darkness and carry you up from a low place. It teaches you to lean, to turn toward a guardian when reason runs out, and to trust that someone bulletproof will keep watch over your light for life.

You rest in the comfort of being held and seen through, grateful and devoted. The feeling is warm and steady but it stays put, since the lift comes from the other person rather than from anything shifting in you. With Protector you remain level, thankful, and unchanged when it ends.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

At scale, Protector installs in a population a tender picture of love as guardianship, where security and rescue arrive through a devoted partner who keeps watch, sees one through the dark, and lifts one from a low place. A culture running this program treats sincere gratitude for a protector as a complete account of a bond.

The symptoms are diffuse and gentle: people locating their safety and their rise in another person, voicing devotion and thanks, and resting in the comfort of being carried. It neither elevates a culture nor corrodes it; the mood holds flat and warm, a settled gratitude that asks nothing further.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
