The Rising Compass

I Work Hard Everyday

Chad Lewine

What is this song about?

A grind-and-rise self-empowerment anthem that follows its own drive, claims a turnaround, and turns outward to share freedom and call everyone to rise together

What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

I Work Hard Everyday sets a striving program running in you: you keep your head down, follow your drive, and trust that nothing gets to stop you, and you fold in a claim that you slipped once and turned it around. Around that runs an open hand, a sense that the freedom you find is for everyone and worth sharing.

The feeling holds level rather than building. You keep restating the grind, the turnaround, and the call to rise together, the same loop returning without the turnaround actually being worked through on the way. You stay where you started, lifted and busy, the effort circling in place.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

At scale, I Work Hard Everyday installs a striving program in a population: people keep their heads down, follow their drive, trust that nothing can stop them, and fold in a claim of having slipped and turned it around. Around that runs an open-handed note, a sense that freedom found is for the whole group and meant to be shared.

The symptoms stay level. A population keeps restating the grind, the turnaround, and the call to rise together, the same loop circling through the group without the turnaround being worked through. The energy holds in place rather than climbing, busy and lifted, settling where it began.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
