What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

Boomerang (Demo) sets you in the position of someone who just caught real feelings and decides to play it cool. You hide how much you want the other person, you carry on with friends and your own routine, and you hold a quiet certainty that they will come back to you.

You stay inside that cool, guarded posture the whole way. The withholding never opens into anything honest or new; it repeats the same confident line and leaves you there. Your stance does not shift or soften, it just circles back to where it began and holds flat.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

Boomerang (Demo) hands a population a small playbook for attraction: feel a lot, show little, stay cool, and trust that the other person will orbit back on their own. A culture reads it as confident restraint, the art of not looking too eager while quietly counting on someone's return.

A population practicing this grows skilled at concealing interest and treating guardedness as strength. They withhold rather than reveal and lean on certainty about another person's behavior instead of honesty with them. The pattern neither corrodes nor builds; it keeps people in a poised, guarded loop around romance and holds them there.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
