What Might This Song Do to the Listener?

The song lifts you into a wide, easy warmth. It gathers everyone in earshot, sets the week's obligations down, and turns a street into a dance floor, and the effect on a listener is contagious release: shoulders drop, the foot starts moving, the private weight of the day loosens in the shared motion. It meets you in the simple human wish to be among people and glad.

What it leaves behind is uncomplicated good feeling. There is no ache underneath and nothing to decode, just an invitation extended over and over until you accept it. A listener comes away buoyant rather than changed, carrying the sense that joy is something you make together, out loud, in company, for as long as the night holds.

What Might This Song Do to a Society?

As a shared text the song works like a public square. It calls a whole mixed crowd into one celebration, dissolving the day's divisions in a common rhythm, and its social note is unifying and generous: everyone is invited, everyone belongs on the floor, the party is the point. It models festivity as a communal good rather than a private indulgence.

Its cultural footprint is warmth without agenda. It asks nothing of the collective except to show up and be glad together, and it leaves an audience with an image of community as a place of easy welcome. That is a light, benevolent thing to put into the culture: a reminder that gathering to celebrate is one of the oldest ways a people knits itself back together.

Audience Vibe

The compass reads the lyrics. The Audience Vibe reads the people — the general place the audience thinks the compass should be pointing for this song, not a raw tally of votes. Two needles, one song; the gap between them is the data.

Do you think it should stay where it is, or be pushed further in one direction?

One vote per person per song per year. No single vote can move the needle far — it takes a crowd.

How the Audience Vibe is calculated

The needle is the compass score nudged by the crowd — never a raw tally. Every "push higher," "push lower," and "agree" vote is recombined into one position each time someone votes:

  • Direction comes from the split. Only the gap between higher and lower votes moves the needle. "Agree" votes pull it back toward the compass score.
  • It takes a crowd. Early votes move it gently — a handful shifts it only a point or two. The more lopsided the crowd, the further it goes.
  • It's capped. The audience can pull a song at most 15 points off the compass score, either direction. No pile-on can push it past that.

So a single "push lower" on a song with few votes moves the needle a little (often a point or two), not all the way down — and it can never run away.
